Given that both this novel, and “Steve Hart”, deal with one of my lifelong passions, adult literacy, I’m especially pleased with this development into large print, organised by my wonderful publisher, Hawkeye. These books are especially useful for the elderly and those of us with impaired sight, and are picked up by libraries and aged homes.
My interest in literacy was sparked by having organised adult literacy programs in Queensland’s prisons and the results of my having conducted the first study into adult illiteracy in the Australian workforce to find that 1 in 7 employed persons admitted to poor literacy. The link between literacy and justice and a workable, prosperous, democracy should be self-evident.
